Oracle’s User Productivity Kit or UPK is a Learning Management tool designed to improve your organization’s productivity by providing for and supporting the development, dissemination and monitoring of process-specific documentation and training aids. Study after study have concluded that most organizations would benefit from the use of consistent and uniform process documentation and training aids, but the lack the internal resources is often cited as the primary reason for not pursuing them. Recent research suggests that productivity improvements of between 10% and 15% are not uncommon when utilizing a well regarded Learning Management solution, in addition to improving employee job satisfaction.
What truly differentiates UPK from other Learning Management solutions is its ease of use, object recognition technology and the diverse set of documentation and training aids it can deliver. For users of JDEdwards, Oracle, and PeopleSoft products, UPK’s unique object recognition technology simplifies the entire documentation process.. For example, while recording selected processes inside the Oracle software, UPK is fully aware of the fields and objects being viewed and recorded which greatly simplifies the task of creating meaningful and effective process documentation and related training aids.
Another significant benefit of UPK is its unique ability to create and publish a variety of documentation types from a single UPK recording session. The UPK Player is a easy-to-use, graphics-based tool designed to make documentation development fast, easy and fun. UPK also comes equipped with an HTML Player, which has limited graphics capabilities, but is fully ADA (American Disabilities Act) approved. The following list outlines the standard types of documentation a single UPK recording session can create:
• Job Aid
• Training Guide
• Instructor Manual
• System Process Document
• Testing Document
In addition to providing a broad and diverse set of documentation, UPK directly combats the common business challenges faced during the traditional software lifecycle, as outlined in the following list:
• User adoption and acceptance
• Initial and ongoing user proficiency
• Time to develop testing, procedural, and training documentation and programs
• Varied styles, formats of training and documentation
• Complex software functionality
• Frequency of projects/upgrades
• Tight project timelines
• Staff turnover – loss of ‘tribal knowledge’
• Inconsistent training of new staff
In summary, many companies have adopted UPK as their user primary training tool to prepare employees for using new applications, existing applications, or when pursuing an upgrade. With UPK’s inbuilt monitoring and tracking capabilities, managers have the tools to both plan for and assess the training needs of their staffs, ensuring consistency and uniformity throughout the organization.
